MakerSpace language

Megan and I felt we were now ready to introduce our MakerSpace area to the younger students. So, to start this off we wanted to introduce some ‘words’, ‘terms’ and ideas to the girls. Using related fiction in library lessons and giving their rotational groups new Names : Makers, Builders and Tinkers ….the scene was set.

A ‘Window of Words’ was created for us all to add to.

During library lessons the girls enjoyed many stories shown in the images.

The book ‘Beautiful Oops!’ was a huge hit with our little ones. I made displays around the library of some of the wonderful creations from ‘mistakes’…..mistakes are great, we learn from them!

oops!

This has really been our focus, as girls tend not to take ‘risks’ the way boys do, often fearing ‘failure’ or making a ‘mistake’. To enjoy and fully participate in our MakerSpace Zone the girls need to feel relaxed and unafraid of ‘mistakes’!
