STEMies Discover Dash!

Dressed for the day! My ‘Star Wars Droids T-Shirt’ was a great success and what a better way to get the girls talking…..naming the four droids on the Abbey Road image!

STEMies is a one day holiday program for girls in Years 4 – 6. We were delighted to play and interact to the robot ‘Dash’. Dash has a companion called Dot but today it was all about ‘Dash’! Dash & Dot are robots which gather a variety of information about what is happening around them and then react to that information in fun and educational ways. Dash & Dot can be programmed to complete tasks using the Blockly app, or can be remote controlled using the Wonder app. There are 4 free apps to interact with Dash & Dot.

Time was spent naming and decorating Dash using Lego blocks. There were some very fancy hats and glasses!

The girls were introduced to Dash and given the opportunity to play and discover. Scroll Quest on the Wonder app helped the girls discover even more and then the girls had heaps of fun using the controller. Girls were invited to design and make mazes. Dash was coded to navigate through each maze by measuring distances, estimating angles and speed as well as giving Dash cool colours and crazy sound effects!

The girls finished off the session with some races!

Dash enabled the girls to demonstrate computational thinking, creative problem-solving, logical thinking, explaining, discussing, collaborating and sharing as well as having heaps of FUN!
