What an incredible weekend of competition! A huge thank you to Margaux Edwards and her team for organizing an exceptionally well-run and smoothly executed event. The two days were filled with intense yet enjoyable performances in both the Novice OnStage and Open OnStage divisions.

St Aidan’s entered two teams in each division. On Saturday, our Novice teams presented very well and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The team called ‘Teyvat Adventurers,’ inspired by an open-world fantasy video game, didn’t place but performed admirably and benefited from the judges’ feedback. The performance had a main character known as the Traveller, she ventured around the world with her friends when she saw someone who needed help to defeat the monsters around the neighbourhood in Sumeru, a real place in the game. Traveller tackled the beast and called upon the help a team the robot to help the adventure finish with no winners.

The team called ‘Panic at the Picnic,’ which depicted a picnic invaded by rodents and ants, placed 3rd out of 35 teams! The performance began with four girls are having a lovely picnic when things started to go wrong. First ants started collecting their food and taking it back into their ant hill. Swatting at the ants frightened a rat that started running around the picnic mat. The rat alerted the dog who went crazy at the rat. Smaller rats took over their picnic basket and just when they thought it couldn’t get any worse, a rat attacked their beautiful pavlova from the inside, which they found out at the conclusion of the performance.

In the Open OnStage division on Sunday, both St Aidan’s teams performed exceptionally well. The team called ‘Fairytale Fablers,’ which focused on a fairytale theme featuring a horseman and a dragon, placed 3rd. This performance began with the curtain robot opening, followed by a Dragon robot entering the scene. Then, using an ultrasonic sensor, the Horseman robot detected this entry and came to the Tower’s aid. As the Dragon continued its menacing march towards the tower, the horseman feints left and right, although ultimately unsuccessful in its attacks. Each time it drew near, the dragon defeated  it. After a while, the horseman drew back, and the dragon reached its destination. After a final roar, the tower began to fall, ending the performance.

The final team, ‘Aidans Apollo,’ which showcased a successful space mission encountering aliens, placed 1st, winning the State Championships. The concept of this performance was the take-off of the “Aidans Apollo” mission from earth and its arrival onto a foreign planet. The objective of this mission was to release a rover onto the planet to locate, retrieve and return an alien egg to its family. However, during this process an evil alien who was the antagonist of our performance approached in an attempt to prevent the success of this mission. To stop this, an intervention by “mission control” (the humans) was launched as a last resort to ensure the alien retreated and the mission completed.

We are incredibly proud of all our teams for their creativity, collaboration, focus, problem-solving, resilience, and perseverance. Congratulations, girls!
