Technovation

IMG_1007I’m so excited this term to be part of our ‘Technovation’ group with a large number of Year 5 and Year 6 students. The senior school students have been very successful in previous years….. learning, creating and having fun developing ‘apps’ to solve and engage with real-life problems and issues.

Pawsout, the team from our senior school won Nationals last year and have participated in some amazing trips. Find out more here. The girls are on FaceBook, Twitter and are actively raising funds to launch their app with the App Store!

So, last Thursday students attended the official launch of the 2016-17 Technovation competition. This is a very exciting, global technology entrepreneurship program specifically for girls. Tim Kemp, the organising teacher in the senior school, with Jenine Beekhuyzen from ‘Search for the Next Tech Girl Superhero’ spoke about the wonderful possibilities for girls in technology and the experiences of the Pawsout Team.

IMG_1009The evening started with girls brainstorming issues which were problems, then in teams working out how these real community problems could be solved, there was lots of fun and sharing. Many girls soon realised this designing process was similar to the process used at QUT LittleBits day.

These were then ‘pitched’ to the group.IMG_1016

The girls received ‘Superheroes’ show bags……which were also capes… as all superheroes need a cape! and devoured delightful cupcakes !
