Literature in our Makerspace

she has highlighted a number of books which are wonderful to promote ‘Making’. The quote by author Sandy Fussell in the picture sums up how librarians and makerspaces really have been around for a long time…but we are now able to add more technology into the activities to truly engage our 21st century students and encourage creativity, imagination and inventiveness!

Inspired by books about making jewellery and the winner of the CBCA Younger Readers Category ‘The Cleo Stories’ our girls created some LED necklaces.

Needless to say teacher librarians are being challenged to try new things. I’m looking forward to sharing the fun I had with Makey Makey with the girls. After starting, like most people, with ‘bananas’ to control my computer…..

……I moved onto playing guitar hero with a cut out guitar and used the makey makey board to play the game…it took a while to significantly improve my score but I finally scored quite well …woohoo!

Hopscotch

I also had fun making a small musical hopscotch….in fact a finger hopscotch with Makey Makey. Using the Makey Makey piano and the board to contact to the numbers….just like real hopscotch but with your fingers and a stone. The girls will have fun with this…
